Wide Nose BridgeWhat are Upturned Nose and Short Nose Correction?

Upturned nose / Short nose surgery creates a well-balanced face

  • 01. Upturned nose / Short nose, refers to a nose that is proportionally too short in consideration of a person’s face and has excessively visible nostrils upon frontal view.
  • 02. Upturned nose/ Short nose surgery is the most difficult rhinoplasty, thus it requires well-experienced, skilled medical professionals and board certified plastic surgery specialists.

Surgery Duration 1.5 hour ~ 2 hours Anesthesia Short-Term Sedation
Hospitalization Not Required Removal of stitches 5 ~ 7 Days After the Operation
Number of postoperative visits 2 ~ 3 times Recovery Period Return to normal life after removal of stitches

Wide Nose BridgeWe recommend Upturned Nose / Short Nose Surgery to:

  • 01. Those whose nostrils are visible due to having a short nose
  • 02. Those whose nose is proportionally long enough but the nostrils are visible
  • 03. Those whose nose is proportionally too short given a person’s face
  • 04. Those whose nose became shorter after previous rhinoplasty

Wide Nose BridgeThe Golden Ratio of the nose to the face

The ideal length of the nose is one-third of the length of the face and the ideal nasolabial angle is between 95° and 105°.

If the nasolabial angle exceeds 110°, the nose tip is upturned. As a result, the nostrils are overly exposed from a frontal view and the nose looks short.

Wide Nose BridgeProcedure of Upturned Nose / Short Nose Correction

Those who have a slightly short nose, but whose nostrils are not overly exposed

We insert an implants or perform autoplasty to lift the height of the glabella and to make the nose look longer.
We insert an ear cartilage or other implants before the nose tip to make the nose look longer.

Those who have an extremely short and upturned nose and those whose nostrils are overly exposed

  • 01. Re positioning of alar cartilages using surgical suture
Without cartilage graft, we re position the alar cartilages using a special suture technique to extend the length of the nose.
  • 02. Septal extension graft with septal cartilage
We can extend the length of a nose by inserting a septal nasal cartilage, costal cartilage, or donated costal cartilage.
  • 03. Nose lengthening procedure using ear cartilages
Using an ear cartilage, we can extend the alar cartilage.
  • 04. Hybrid septal cartilage graft
For those who have extremely small septal nasal cartilages, we perform this procedure using septal nasal cartilages, ear cartilages, and donated costal cartilages, in order to extend their nose length.

Wide Nose BridgeCautions Before Rhinoplasty

  • 01. You must stop taking medications that interfere with hemostasis (oral contraceptive pills, hormone drugs, vitamin E, aspirin, etc.) at least two weeks before an operation. If you are currently receiving treatment for high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, or thyroid disease, you must inform your doctor or consultant in advance.
  • 02. Cigarettes may cause phlegm, sneezing, or bleeding after an operation. We strongly recommend that you stop smoking for two weeks before an operation. A serious cold may reduce your trachea and respiratory functions. Please inform your consultant or doctor in advance if you happen to be suffering from a serious cold on the day of surgery.
  • 03. Before you come to the hospital, you must remove makeup, contact lenses, any accessories, nail polish, and pedicure on the day of surgery.
  • 04. You must stop eating any food at least four hours before an operation.
  • 05. We recommend you to wear comfortable clothes, which will not irritate the surgical sites, a mask, a cap, and sunglasses. In addition, we advise you to come with a guardian or use public transportation.

Wide Nose BridgePost-Operative Management

  • 01. Placing the surgical sites on a higher position than your heart helps to reduce swelling.
  • 02. Apply an ice pack on the surgical site for the first two or three days.
  • 03. Avoid severe friction and acupressure massage around the surgical sites for at least one month after an operation. Use a sauna or take a hot bath at least one month later.
  • 04. Refrain from smoking or drinking, which may delay your recovery, for at least four weeks after an operation.
  • 05. You may engage in some light exercise such as a walk right after an operation. However, you must refrain from heavy exercise such as aerobics, tennis, and swimming, for at least three to four weeks after an operation.
