Facial Asymmetry Correction

Balance and harmonize your crooked face!

What is FACIAL ASYMMETRY CORRECTION?

Corrects unbalanced facial bones in a harmonious ratio

Facial asymmetry refers to the case where the jawbone is curved to either side, or the left and right sides are not symmetrical due to the difference in size of the jawbone.

Facial asymmetry correction is performed to realign the face when the lower jaw is bent or skewed by 2 ~ 3cm or more from the centerline of the face, or the difference in the size of the left and right jaw bones is significant. In other cases, mandibular prognathism or mouth protrusion can occur on top of facial asymmetry.

Aesthetic Factors

Facial asymmetry breaks the balance and symmetry of the facial line and the jawline.

Psychological Factors

In addition to facial complexities, inaccurate enunciation reduces self-esteem.

Functional Factors

Malocclusion can cause temporomandibular disabilities, discomfort in biting and chewing, and digestion problems.

  • Those who have crooked centerline, and a long face with a jutting chin, protruding mouth, or receding chin.
  • Those whose centerline of the face is normal, but have a difference between the left and right jawline.

Surgery methods by types of facial asymmetry

In case of normal centerline of the face with asymmetrical chin

Square jaw surgery
  1. Incision on the mucous membrane inside the mouth.
  2. Cut the lower part of the jawbone into a T-shape.
  3. Trim the protruding bones and connect them gently.

In case of asymmetrical lower jaw

Mandibular surgery

Sagittal Split Ramus Osteotomy (SSRO)

  1. Divide the posterior part of the lower jaw into two and move it backward.
  2. Overlay the jawbone and fix it with a fixation plate.

Intraoral Vertical Ramus Osteotomy (IVRO)

After cutting the posterior part of the lower jaw vertically, it is not fixed.

In case of the slope of the upper jaw is asymmetric

Double jaw surgery
  1. After cutting the bones of the upper and lower jaw, correct them to an ideal position.
  2. After trimming the protruding bone, fix the cut bone so that it does not move.
It requires close attention because the degree of complications such as bleeding, infection and inflammation can be different from person to person.
