What is a SMAS facelift?

We can treat sagging and wrinkled skin by tightening the muscular layer, the so-called the SMAS layer.

The SMAS layer, located between the subcutaneous fat layer and the muscular layer, is the outermost layer covering muscles. Unlike traditional facelift methods that simply tighten the skin, a SMAS facelift tightens the SMAS layer to improve skin elasticity from the inside. With this procedure, you can expect to see noticeable and long-lasting effects.

JW Plastic Surgery provides an advanced SMAS facial-sculpting lift, instead of the traditional SMAS facelift procedure.

The features of SMAS facelift

01Preservation of fat pads and deep fascia

Facial fat and soft tissue are divided into several pads. These fat pads help you to maintain a young appearance.
Fat pads begin to sag with age. You can maintain a young appearance and reduce wrinkles by preserving and tightening the fat pads. To achieve optimized effects, each fat pad should be tightened in different directions.

Based on our expertise and skills, JW Plastic Surgery aims to achieve optimized effects by preserving and tightening each fat pad in the right direction.

02Detachment of retaining ligaments

The face contains retaining ligaments connecting skin, fat, and bones to each other. Retaining ligaments keep each tissue in a proper position. However, they become loose with age and the skin and fat begin to sag as a result.

The retaining ligaments under the SMAS layer should be cut during a facelift. Otherwise, they pull down the tightened SMAS layer. The retaining ligaments located deep under the skin are difficult to reach due to adjacent nerves. Therefore, this procedure should be performed by medical professionals who have extensive experience.

03Rolling pexis instead of cutting

The traditional facelift procedure tightens the loose SMAS layer and then cuts the remainder. JW Plastic Surgery rolls up and fixes them, instead of cutting them. This method maintains the tightened skin for a long time by firmly fixing the SMAS layer. By fixing the remainder under the zygomatic bones, we make your face look much younger.

Based on a wealth of experience and knowhow, JW Plastic Surgery evolved the traditional SMAS facelift to the SMAS facial-sculpting lift. This new procedure that demands a high degree of skill has been regarded as a next-generation facelift procedure.

Procedure

  • STEP 01

Make an incision inside the scalp in order to make the scar become invisible.

  • STEP 02

    Remove the loose skin.

  • STEP 03

Remove the SMAS layer by cutting retaining ligaments.

  • STEP 04

Pull the SMAS layer upwards while preserving the fat pads. Then, roll and fix it.

  • STEP 05

    Cut and stitch the remainder.

TIP. If sagging and wrinkles are not severe, a minimum-incision partial facelift may be available.

The range of incisions may vary depending on wrinkles and aging. Therefore, consultation with JW’s specialists who have extensive experience is strongly recommended before undergoing a procedure.
